Rust Force Wipe: A Countdown HUD on rust.simontodd.me

Facepunch force wipes on the first Thursday of the month at 19:00 UK. I wanted that countdown on my own hub, so I built a HUD for it.

Facepunch force wipes on the first Thursday of every month at 19:00 UK. Every official and community server has to come back on a fresh map. People google the time, land on a random countdown, and still argue about whether it is 19:00 London or 2pm Eastern.

That is exactly why I put a force wipe HUD on my own Rust hub. A full page at rust.simontodd.me/wipe, and the same clock on the landing page at rust.simontodd.me.

The Problem

Wipe night is a calendar event and a ritual. The date is easy. First Thursday. The hour is the bit people get wrong, because London stays on 19:00 while UTC jumps with British Summer Time.

I already had Companion for the squad overlay and Warden for the dedicated server. The hub at rust.simontodd.me was two product cards and a sentence. Fine for downloads. Useless if you opened it on wipe day and wanted to know how long you had left.

What It Does

The wipe page is a lookout HUD over a Rust landscape. From the glass you get:

  • The official clock. Days, hours, minutes, seconds to the next first Thursday at 19:00 Europe/London.
  • Local time. Same instant in your timezone, so you are not converting BST by hand.
  • Weekly as well. Officials also wipe on the other Thursdays. The panel shows the next one.
  • Targets. Launch, Airfield, Water Treatment, Power Plant, Train Yard, Satcom. Flavour coords for immersion, not a live map.
  • A device, not a widget. Red glass boxes, a compass strip, distance reticles on the plant and the dish.

On a phone the wooden frame and compass drop away. The countdown stays first. Targets go two across so it still reads as a HUD, not a long article.

It Lives on the Hub Too

The landing page now has the same art and the same timer between the hero and the Companion / Warden cards. Click the strip and you are in the full HUD.

One script drives both clocks. After 19:00 UK on wipe day it rolls to the next first Thursday. No leftover zero sitting there until I remember to edit a date.

Getting Started

There is nothing to install. Open the page:

  1. Go to rust.simontodd.me/wipe for the full HUD.
  2. Or start at rust.simontodd.me and use the countdown on the landing page.
  3. Companion and Warden are still next to it if you want the overlay or the desktop server app.

Why Build It

Same reason I built Companion and Warden. I was tired of sending people off my own site to check a time that Facepunch already publishes. If the hub is home for the Rust tools, wipe night should be on it too.

So I built it.

Try It

If you play or host Rust and you want the next force wipe without hunting a third party countdown, it is at rust.simontodd.me/wipe.
